Arda Turan

Arda Turan (born 30 January 1987) is a Turkey association football who plays for Atlético Madrid and the Turkey national football team, as a Forward (association football) Winger. At the age of 22, prior to the Süper Lig 2009-10 Arda Turan was made the captain of Galatasaray S.K. (football team).

Arda Turan (born 30 January 1987) is a Turkey association football who plays for Atlético Madrid and the Turkey national football team, as a Forward (association football) Winger. At the age of 22, prior to the Süper Lig 2009-10 Arda Turan was made the captain of Galatasaray S.K. (football team).

Arda already has 50 senior national caps and 12 goals for Turkey national football team, and following a successful Euro 2008 campaign, Arda Turan was ranked 8th in a selection of the 100 Best Young Football Players in the World, published by Spanish magazine Don Balón in July 2008.
In January 2011, Arda was voted as the third most popular European footballer of 2009, and the 14th most popular footballer in the world, by the IFFHS.
Arda is considered a maestro of the midfield, excelling in both passing and dribbling skills.

Club career

Galatasaray

Arda is a product of the Galatasaray A2, and had a successful spell on loan to fellow Super Lig side Manisaspor in the Süper Lig 2005-06 season. Arda Turan was recalled the for the start of the following season, and quickly broke into the first team. It was during this time that Arda Turan received Arda Turan first senior international call up. Arda quickly impressed manager Eric Gerets with Arda Turan performances early in the Süper Lig 2006-07 season. After Arda Turan performances in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers which led Galatasaray S.K. (football team) to the group stage, Arda became a first team regular.
Arda continued Arda Turan development in the Süper Lig 2007-08 season. Despite a poor start to the season, Arda improved Arda Turan performances immensely, scoring seven goals in the second half of the season. Following Arda Turan impressive displays domestically, Newcastle United F.C. made a £9m offer to buy Arda prior to the UEFA Euro 2008 championships, but the Galatasaray S.K. (football team) chairman rejected the offer.
At the start of the Süper Lig 2009–10 season, Arda was handed the captaincy of Galatasaray S.K. (football team), and was handed squad number 10, which had previously belonged to Metin Oktay and Gheorghe Hagi, having previously worn number 66.
As captain at the start of the Süper Lig 2009–10 season, Arda Turan guided Arda Turan team to six consecutive league wins games which put Galatasaray S.K. (football team) comfortably at the top of the table. Arda Turan has scored seven goals and registered 17 assists in all competitions so far this season. At the end of the season Arda Turan was the subject of an offer by Atlético Madrid who offered €10 million for Arda on the last day of the transfer window.
In the Süper Lig 2010-11 season, Arda Turan, was troubled with injuries and played a limited amount of games. By the end of the season Arda Turan had only played in 12 league games which Arda Turan scored 2 goals and 3 cup games which Arda Turan scored 1 goal in.

Atlético Madrid

In the late hours of 9 August 2011 it was announced that Arda would be joining Atlético Madrid for a fee of €12 million + bonuses, making Arda Turan the most expensive Turkey football transfer of all time.

Arda Turan made Arda Turan 2011–12 La Liga debut on 28 August 2011, against CA Osasuna coming on as a substitute player in the 61st minute. Arda Turan made Arda Turan 2011–12 UEFA Europa League debut on 15 September 2011, against Celtic F.C., starting in the starting eleven and assisting a goal by Diego Ribas da Cunha. On 18 September 2011, Arda was selected in the starting eleven and snatched two impressive assists, one for forward Radamel Falcao García, the other for Adrián López Álvarez.
On 25 October 2011, Galatasaray President, Ünal Aysal, stated that Arda will come back to Galatasaray under Right of first refusal signed between Galatasaray and Atlético Madrid during the interview with Lig TV. On 30 November 2011, Arda scored Arda Turan first goal for Atlético Madrid in a 2011–12 UEFA Europa League game against Celtic F.C., with a powerful volley from just outside the box. On 11 December 2011, Arda scored Arda Turan first goal of the La Liga season with a driven volley just outside the box. In the 2011–12 UEFA Europa League game that followed, Arda continued Arda Turan streak by dribbling inside the box and firing a shot to the right corner in which Atlético Madrid defeated Stade Rennais F.C. three goals to one.

International career

Senior team

Arda is an international regular having made over 40 appearances for Turkey national football team at senior level. Arda Turan made Arda Turan debut in the 1–0 friendly victory over Luxembourg national football team on August 16, 2006, having worked Arda Turan way through the youth National Team at U19 and U21 level. Arda Turan scored Arda Turan first international goal on May 25, 2008 in a friendly against Uruguay national football team.

Euro 2008

Arda featured in nine of Turkey's twelve qualification matches for UEFA Euro 2008, and starred in the finals of the tournament itself. Arda Turan scored two goals during Turkey national football team's progression to the semi-finals. The first was a 92nd minute winner against the Switzerland national football team in their second group game to knock them out of the competition. Arda Turan second came in the final group game against the Czech Republic national football team, in which the winner would go through to the quarter-finals due to identical records. Arda Turan scored Turkey's first goal in the 75th minute, beating Petr Čech with a low shot, which lead to Turkey coming from 2–0 down to win the match.
Arda Turan also successfully converted a spot-kick in the penalty shootout against Croatia national football team in the quarter-finals, taking Turkey to the semis where they were eventually knocked out by losing finalists Germany national football team.

2010 World Cup

Arda scored two goals during the qualification rounds of the World Cup, but ultimately Turkey failed to qualify from their group. After a 2010_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_(UEFA) Group_5 in September 2008 between Armenia national football team and Turkey national football team, two sides which have historical political problems, both teams received a FIFA Fair Play Award for 2008. Arda Turan scored the Turkish national team's 600th international goal, in a 2010_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_(UEFA) Group_5 against Estonia national football team on 5 September 2009.

Euro 2012

Arda has scored four goals so far during the qualification rounds of the UEFA Euro 2012, two against Kazakhstan, one against Belgium and one against Austria.
