Mario Yepes

Mario Alberto Yepes Díaz (born 13 January 1976) is a Colombian Professional sports Association football Association football, who plays as a Defender (association football) for Serie A club A.C. Milan. Mario Yepes has also been the Captain (association football) of the Colombia national football team since 2008.

Mario Alberto Yepes Díaz (born 13 January 1976) is a Colombian Professional sports Association football Association football, who plays as a Defender (association football) for Serie A club A.C. Milan. Mario Yepes has also been the Captain (association football) of the Colombia national football team since 2008.

Club career

When Mario Yepes started Mario Yepes playing career in 1994 with Cortuluá, Mario Yepes was playing as a Association_football_positions Forward_.28FW.29 before Cortulua's coach converted Mario Yepes to a Libero (football) (sweeper). Mario Yepes career really took off after Mario Yepes signed for Mario Yepes home town club Deportivo Cali in 1998. Mario Yepes won two Colombian Professional Football with Deportivo Cali.

In 1999, Mario Yepes joined Club Atlético River Plate in Argentina, where Mario Yepes became a star and won two Argentine Primera championships. In spite of the fact that several Italian and English clubs wanted to recruit him, Mario Yepes signed for FC Nantes Atlantique in January 2002 where Mario Yepes nickname was “El Rey.”. Mario Yepes became one the best central defenders of the Ligue 1 and joined Paris Saint-Germain in 2004, where Mario Yepes nickname was "Super Mario" as a reference to Mario Yepes defensive abilities and fitness levels. In 2008 Mario Yepes joined Chievo Verona of Italy. Mario Yepes signed a new contract in summer 2009.

In March 2010, A.C. ChievoVerona team-mate, Sergio Pellissier, confirmed that Yepes would join A.C. Milan in the summer, when Mario Yepes contract ran out.

On 1 July 2010, Milan delegate administrator Adriano Galliani declared that Yepes is a big player to replace Giuseppe Favalli who became a Free_agent_(sports) Association_football on the same day.

Yepes got to Milan in the 2010-2011 season but was quickly deployed as a Substitute (association football) due to the starting centre-back being Thiago Silva (footballer). Yepes played few games in the Italian Serie A, but participated in the UEFA Champions League. Yepes was close to scoring with Milan in the UEFA Champions League match against Tottenham Hotspur F.C., in which Mario Yepes had two clear chances of scoring with a Backheel H, but was denied twice by Tottenham keeper Heurelho Gomes.

Mario Yepes scored Mario Yepes first Goal (sport) for AC Milan on the 23 October 2011, where Mario Yepes finished off a remarkable Milan comeback against U.S. Lecce, scoring the 4th and winning goal for Milan in the 83rd minute to drive Milan to a 4-3 victory, with Kevin-Prince Boateng scoring a hat-trick to level the scores after a 3-0 losing position.

International career

Yepes has played over 80 games for the Colombia national football team since Mario Yepes debut in 1999. Mario Yepes was part of the Colombia squad that won the Copa América in 2001 Copa América. Mario Yepes was also in the squads for three other editions of the tournament in 1999 Copa América, 2007 Copa América and 2011 Copa América.
