He played for RC Strasbourg before moving to Marseille in what was considered a surprise move, because he was so settled at his old club and was a firm favourite there. He established himself as one of the most accomplished Defender (football) in France's top tier. His preferred position in which he currently plays is right back. Habib can also play centre back if asked.
In the closing minutes of the summer transfer window he completed a move to England club Newcastle United F.C. signing a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee, thought to be around £2m.
Sam Allardyce was very pleased with that bit of business and Beye was also joined in the closing minutes of August with Abdoulaye Faye
Allardyce said in a later interview on the clubs website that he felt he acquired Beye for a "bargain" price and that him and Faye would be excellent signings for Newcastle United
