François Clerc biography
François Clerc (born 18 April 1983 in Bourg-en-Bresse) is a France football (soccer) who plays right back for Olympique Lyonnais.
He joined the reigning Ligue 1 titleholders in the summer of 2005 from Toulouse FC, and broke into the first team that season, making 19 appearances in the domestic league and in UEFA Champions League. He also received a shock call-up (although he would not feature in the match) to the France national football team for their March friendly against Slovenia national football team, even though he had never been capped previously for any of France's youth squads. However, he could not earn a regular place ahead of the experienced Anthony Réveillère. He was also a member of the France national under-21 football team team that participated in the European Under-21 Football Championship finals in UEFA U-21 Championship 2006, making two appearances. He is no longer eligible for the U-21 squad. He earned his first cap for France national football team in the 5-0 win against Faroe Islands on 11 October 2006.
Clerc now battles with Anthony Réveillère for the right-back spot at Lyon, although Clerc has also filled in on occasion as a right sided midfielder/winger in the team's 4-3-3 formation, with limited success.
He was banned for 4 matches because of an improper transfer agreement to Olympique de Marseille.
