Artur Wichniarek biography


Artur Wichniarek (; born 28 February 1977 in Poznań) is a Poland association football who plays for Hertha BSC in the Fußball-Bundesliga.

Career

Wichniarek started Artur Wichniarek professional career at Lech Poznań in 1992–93 season. The following season Artur Wichniarek made Artur Wichniarek Orange Ekstraklasa début, however, Artur Wichniarek was not able to secure a place in the starting eleven. In the spring of 1996 was loaned to Polish Second League club Górnik Konin. Upon Artur Wichniarek return to Artur Wichniarek home club Artur Wichniarek managed to win the manager's confidence and in the following 1996–97 season Artur Wichniarek played 30 times, albeit scoring only four goals. The same year Wichniarek joined Widzew Łódź, where Artur Wichniarek played until 1999, appearing 57 times and scoring 28 goals altogether, most of them in the 1998–99 season. Artur Wichniarek talent drew the attention of Arminia Bielefeld directors, who brought Artur Wichniarek to Bielefeld, where Artur Wichniarek impressed the fans, becoming the club's leading player and best striker. In 2001–02 season Artur Wichniarek won the title of 2. Fußball-Bundesliga top scorer, which earned Artur Wichniarek the nickname King Arthur. Hertha BSC took notice and in 2003 Artur Wichniarek moved to Olympiastadion, however, Artur Wichniarek usually appeared only as a sub. After two seasons in Berlin, in the beginning of 2006, with 44 appearances and four goals on Artur Wichniarek sheet, Artur Wichniarek moved back to Arminia Bielefeld. Artur Wichniarek became one of Arminia Bielefeld dominant players, scoring 33 goals in three seasons. Wichniarek was named the Bundesliga's Footballer of the Month in August 2008.

On 3 July 2009 left Arminia Bielefeld and turned back to sign with Artur Wichniarek former club Hertha BSC. Artur Wichniarek signed a two year contract.

International career

Wichniarek made Artur Wichniarek first appearance for the Poland national football team on 3 March 1999. The fixture was against Armenia national football team where the Poles won 1-0. Wichniarek was not among the manager's favorites and Artur Wichniarek occasional appearances were usually limited to friendlies. Artur Wichniarek first international goal was at the expense of the Czech Republic national football team national team on 28 April 1999. Altogether, Artur Wichniarek appeared in 16 international matches and four of Artur Wichniarek shots found their way into the opponents' net. Artur Wichniarek last significant cap was against Estonia national football team in Tallinn, where Artur Wichniarek scored one of the two goals for the winners.
