Profile
Ottl started playing football for the Munich-based football club SV Nord Lerchenau. Since 1996 he played for different junior teams of FC Bayern Munich. In 2002 Hermann Gerland, coach of the Bayern Munich reserves team, nominated him to play in the Regionalliga (third division). As Ottl was one of the key players of the third division team, he was given the chance to play for the Bundesliga team. Ottl is now the sixth player of the Bayern Munich youth system who is currently featured in the Bundesliga squad after signing professional forms on July 1 2005, a first full-time contract for the youngster thus following in the footsteps of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Owen Hargreaves and company. The sole Munich-born player in the squad apart from Philipp Lahm and Christian Lell has his feet firmly planted on the ground, naming his initial goals as "learn, train hard and make a substitute appearance every now and then." The versatile defensive midfielder will continue to amass match practice with the reserves where he has been a regular for two seasons and collected third division south championship honours in 2004. He scored his first goal against FC Kaiserslautern.
