Frank Rost (born 30 June 1973 in Chemnitz) is a Germany association football who plays as a Goalkeeper (association football) for Hamburger SV.
Frank Rost comes from a sporting family background; Frank Rost father Peter Rost (handball player) won a gold medal at the 1980 Olympic Games in team handball, and Frank Rost mother Christina Rost, also a handball player, won the silver at the 1976 Summer Olympics and bronze at the 1980 Games.
Rost started Frank Rost career at SV Werder Bremen before moving to FC Schalke 04 in July 2002. Frank Rost was a regular first-choice keeper at Schalke until Frank Rost lost Frank Rost starting position to youngster Manuel Neuer in late 2006, so in January 2007 Frank Rost moved to then struggling Hamburger SV where Frank Rost immediately became first choice keeper and helped the team move from last to seventh place. Frank Rost good form has continued since, which made HSV fans to nickname Frank Rost "Frost". Frank Rost has four caps with Germany national football team, making Frank Rost debut against the United States men's national soccer team in 2002.
Apart from Jens Lehmann, Rost is the only goalkeeper to score from open play in the Fußball-Bundesliga, when Frank Rost scored on 31 March 2002 against F.C. Hansa Rostock.
