Pierre Nlend Wome (born March 26, 1979 in Douala) is a Cameroonian football (soccer) defender who currently plays for German Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen. His contract runs until June 30th 2008.
Career
Former clubs he played for, before his transfer to Werder, include Vicenza Calcio. A.S. Lucchese-Libertas, A.S. Roma Brescia Calcio, Bologna F.C. 1909, Fulham F.C., RCD Espanyol and most recently F.C. Internazionale Milano.
On 8th October 2005, Wome missed a 95th minute penalty kick (football) during Cameroon national football team final Football World Cup 2006 - African Qualification Groups against Egypt national football team that would have sent the Indomitable Lions to the 2006 FIFA World Cup; unfortunately for Wome he cannoned the shot off the outside of the post and the Côte d'Ivoire national football team qualified at their expense.
During a press conference several days afterward, Wome said about the penalty: "No one wanted to take that penalty. No one. Neither Samuel Eto'o nor our captain Rigobert Song, because they knew what could have happened if they missed. I have always had the courage and I went to the spot." He also claimed that some Cameroon fans wanted to kill him.
On 19 March 2007, Wome announced his retirement from international football.
In May 2006, he signed a two year contract with German team Werder Bremen.
