Fernando Cáceres

Fernando Gabriel Cáceres (born February 7 1969 in San Isidro, Buenos Aires) is a retired Argentina professional Football (soccer) Defender (football).

He has played for several clubs in the Primera División Argentina and the Spain La Liga during his career, and he has been a member of the Argentina national football team.

Club career

Cáceres began playing professional football at Argentinos Juniors and in 1991 was transferred to Club Atlético River Plate where he won his first title the Apertura 1991.

Cáceres then moved to Spain to play for Real Zaragoza, where he won the Copa del Rey in 1994 and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1995.

He returned to Argentina for a brief spell at Boca Juniors before moving again to Spain in late 1996 to play for Valencia CF, where he stayed until the end of the 1997-98 season. From 1998 to 2004 he played for Celta de Vigo. In six seasons with the club, he played 218 matches in all competitions, scoring five goals. He then had a short spell at Spanish Segunda División club Córdoba CF.

In 2004, he returned to Argentina once again to play for Club Atlético Independiente, joining a select group of players who have played for River Plate, Boca Juniors, and Independiente. In 2006, he rejoined Argentinos Juniors, the club where he began his career 20 years earlier.

National team

Cáceres won the South American Under 17 Football Championship in 1985. At full international level, he earned 31 cap (sport) for the Argentina national football team. He was part of the squad that won the Copa América 1993 and he was also in the Argentine squad for the 1994 FIFA World Cup.
