Agustín Alayes (born 22 July 1978 in La Plata) is an Argentina football (soccer) defender (football) who currently plays for Club Atlético Banfield of the Primera División Argentina as centre back.

Career

Estudiantes

Alayes started Agustín Alayes career at Estudiantes in 1997 but in 2000 Agustín Alayes left Agustín Alayes home town club to play for Quilmes Atlético Club in 2000. Five years later Agustín Alayes returned to Estudiantes.

Agustín Alayes first greatest achievement of Agustín Alayes career was helping Estudiantes become 2006–2007 in Argentine football champions. Agustín Alayes played in the 2–1 victory over Boca Juniors on 13 December 2006, in the deciding match for the title of 2006–2007 in Argentine football champions.

Alayes scored five goals, noted for their importance in securing important wins, and for being mostly full-thrust headers. Sports diary Olé compared Agustín Alayes to Estudiantes legend José Luis Brown. Undoubtedly, Agustín Alayes greatest achievement was win the 2009 Copa Libertadores as one of the referents of the club, playing in the final won 2–1 against Cruzeiro Esporte Clube.

On 4 January 2010, Newell's Old Boys signed the central defender from Estudiantes.

Colo-Colo

On 7 January 2011, was announced that Alayes joined to the most successful club of Chile, Colo-Colo by a one-year contract. Agustín Alayes arrived to the club on request of the coach Diego Cagna. Shortly after was reported that the player would be earning a salary around of $15 million Chilean peso (US$32.000), it converted Agustín Alayes the highest paid player in the Chilean football along with Agustín Alayes teammate Andrés Scotti.

Despite Agustín Alayes potencial salary and Agustín Alayes long trajectory at the competitive football of Argentina, Alayes had a poor season with Colo-Colo, starting with the several injuries that Agustín Alayes suffered, playing only two games that were defeats in the 2011 Chilean Primera División season and Agustín Alayes coach Diego Cagna, who had full confidence in him, was fired. The club's new coach Americo Gallego not considered Agustín Alayes in the team.

On 3 June 2011, Alayes was released of the club, costing the indemnification $70 million pesos (US$149.000), causing anger in the fans of the club and also the Chilean sports media, despite the bad season that also passing Colo-Colo.

River Plate

On 11 July 2011, Alayes was announced as the first player signed by Club Atlético River Plate in preparation for return to the first division of Agustín Alayes country, after a dramatic relegation to the second tier after River Plate's 110 years of history.
