Antonio Chimenti biography
Antonio Chimenti (born 30 June 1970 in Bari) is an Italy Football (soccer) goalkeeper. He currently plays for Juventus FC on loan from Udinese Calcio.
Club career
Chimenti played for modest clubs in Italy until 1997, when he served a two year-stint with A.S. Roma.
After three impressive seasons with U.S. Lecce, he was snapped by Juventus F.C in July 2002, where he played understudy to Gianluigi Buffon. On January 2006, Chimenti signed a two-year deal with Cagliari Calcio on a free transfer, despite having still 6 months in his Juventus contract left.
For Serie A 2007-08, Chimenti signed for one season with Udinese Calcio, again on a free transfer, on 29 June 2007, backing up Samir Handanovic. However, in Serie A 2008-09, he returned to Juventus, this time on loan, as Alexander Manninger, Carlo Cudicini, Francesco Antonioli, Flavio Roma, and several others were also linked to the Turin giants.
Chimenti made his 2008 Juventus debut, coming on as a sub for Buffon, in a friendly versus Brondby. On August 5, 2008, it was announced that Juventus have signed Alexander Manninger as Gianluigi Buffon's back-up, due to some poor performances by Antonio Chimenti during pre-season, thus making Chimenti become the third choice goalkeeper at the Turin based club.
Personal
- Chimenti's father, Francesco Chimenti (ex-Osimana) and uncle Vito Chimenti (ex-Taranto Sport) were both also footballers.
