Bovo grew up playing in the renowned A.S. Roma youth system, and was sold on a co-ownership bid to Serie B club U.S. Lecce in the 2002/2003 season. Lecce promoted to Serie A and gave Bovo the opportunity to make his Serie A début in 2003. On 2004, Bovo was fully signed by AS Roma, who shared his ownership with U.S. Città di Palermo; both teams agreed to loan him to Parma F.C, where Bovo played as a regular for the whole season, showing good potential.
