Danny Granville biography
Danny Granville (born January 19, 1975 in Islington) is an England football (soccer) currently with Leyton Orient F.C.. He signed for Leyton Orient on 4th June 2008 having been released from Colchester United F.C. on 7th May 2008. He plays as a left back.
Danny Granville began his career with Cambridge United F.C., later moving to Chelsea F.C. who signed him for £300,000 in 1997. He lost his place in the Chelsea side when Graeme Le Saux returned from Blackburn Rovers F.C.. Arguably the highlight of his career occurred during his time at Chelsea, playing in the winning side in the 1998 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup triumph over VfB Stuttgart. He was signed by Leeds United A.F.C. in the following summer for £1,600,000. Following a successful loan spell at Manchester City F.C. in November 1999 he moved again, joining Manchester City permanently for £1,000,000. While at Manchester City he was pushed onto the bench once again and spent a month on loan at Norwich City F.C..
In December 2001 Danny signed for Crystal Palace F.C. where he played in the first team regularly. Following his move to Palace, Granville took Manchester City to a Football League hearing claiming breach of contract. An appeal hearing ruled that the offer of settlement made by City and later withdrawn, was binding and the Manchester club were forced to pay a five-figure sum to Granville.
He has represented England national football team in the under-21s team. However, with the senior team rather spoilt when it comes to left backs, Granville has never represented his country at the highest level.
Granville went on to make 138 appearances for Crystal Palace. Towards the end of his Palace career, Granville saw another left back try to take his place, namely youngster Gary Borrowdale. Granville's torrid run of injuries allowed Borrowdale a long spell in the first team leading to Granville's release by Palace in May 2007. The Londoner signed with Colchester United two months later and was given the number 2 shirt for the 2007/08 season.
Granville was released by Colchester United at the conclusion of the 2007/8 season and went on to sign for Leyton Orient on 4th June 2008.
