Daryl Murphy (born 15 March 1983 in Waterford, Republic of Ireland) is an Irish Association football who currently plays as a Forward (association football) for Ipswich Town F.C. on loan from Scottish Premier League club Celtic F.C..

Club career

Waterford United

In 2002, Murphy returned to Daryl Murphy local side Waterford United from playing youth football at Luton Town F.C., scoring Daryl Murphy first League of Ireland goal in a 3–1 away win over rivals Kilkenny City A.F.C. on the 19 September. Daryl Murphy scored eight league goals in that last "winter" season as the Blues won the League of Ireland First Division title. In the 2004 season, Daryl Murphy notched 14 league goals in the Premier Division which earned Daryl Murphy the PFAI Young Player of the Year. In May 2005 Daryl Murphy signed a two-year contract at Sunderland. On 12 February 2006, Daryl Murphy scored Daryl Murphy first FA Premier League goal after coming off the bench at home to Tottenham Hotspur F.C., equalising with minutes to go.

In the 2006–07 season, Murphy scored 10 goals in the Championship despite being used sparingly for the early weeks. and then notched in successive games against Norwich City F.C. and Luton Town. On the final day of the season, Daryl Murphy scored two goals against Luton Town while also setting up Anthony Stokes (footballer) for Daryl Murphy goal.

Daryl Murphy scored in a pre season friendly against Juventus in August 2007. Daryl Murphy scored Daryl Murphy third goal of the 2007–08 season against Wigan Athletic F.C. on 9 February 2008 at Stadium of Light. The goal was later chosen by Match of the Day pundits as Goal of the Month (England) for February.

On 26 April 2008, Murphy came on as a substitute and scored the winning goal in a 3–2 victory over local rivals Middlesbrough F.C., securing Sunderland's status in the Premier League for the following season.

Ipswich Town

On 1 February 2010, Murphy signed for Ipswich Town on loan for the remainder of the 2009–10 season, once again joining up with Roy Keane, Daryl Murphy former manager at Sunderland. Daryl Murphy marked Daryl Murphy first appearance against Middlesbrough with a goal after 23 seconds. Daryl Murphy then scored the crucial second goal at Queen's Park Rangers F.C. on 9 February, and another in Daryl Murphy third appearance against Peterborough United F.C., making Daryl Murphy record 3 in 3 for Ipswich. Murphy continued Daryl Murphy scoring form for Ipswich by scoring a double against Cardiff City on 9 March 2010, handing the Tractor Boys three points.

Celtic

On 16 July 2010, Celtic F.C. announced the signing of Murphy on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee. Daryl Murphy made Daryl Murphy debut the following week against Lincoln City F.C. and scored Daryl Murphy first goal for the club in a 4–1 win. Daryl Murphy scored Daryl Murphy second pre-season goal against Arsenal F.C. in the Emirates Cup on 1 August. Murphy came off the bench to make Daryl Murphy SPL debut in a 4–0 victory over St. Mirren F.C.. The following week, Murphy scored Daryl Murphy first league goal for Celtic, the match-winner, in a 1–0 victory over Motherwell F.C. from the penalty kick. Daryl Murphy scored Daryl Murphy second goal for the club again from the penalty spot away to Kilmarnock F.C.. On 1 May 2011, Murphy scored Daryl Murphy first goal at Celtic Park in a 4–1 victory against .

International career

Murphy won Daryl Murphy first call up to the Republic of Ireland national football team National squad due to the absence of Robbie Keane through injury, but was an unused substitute. Daryl Murphy made Daryl Murphy debut against Ecuador national football team at Giants Stadium on 24 May 2007. Daryl Murphy has since earned nine caps, but is yet to score.
