Craig Davies biography
Craig Martin Davies (born 9 January 1986 in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, England) is an England-born Wales international football (soccer) who currently plays as a striker for English club Oldham Athletic A.F.C..
He was a member of the youth team at Shrewsbury Town F.C., and then Manchester City F.C., before moving in August 2004 to Oxford United F.C. where he made his league debut on 30 August 2004 in a 1-0 win at Notts County F.C..
He went on to score 8 goals in 29 appearances for the first team during the season and came close to signing for Premier League side Charlton Athletic F.C. in June 2005.
Instead, he moved to Hellas Verona F.C. of Serie B in January 2006 for a fee of £85,000 but managed only one appearance for the Italian club before moving back to England in August 2006 on loan at Football League Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C..
He was a regular choice throughout the first half of the 2006-07 in English football, but found himself largely unused after the January transfer window saw Wolves sign striker Andy Keogh. He never managed a league goal for the club in 23 games, but did score twice in the FA Cup, ironically against the club he would join permanently, Oldham Athletic A.F.C..
After Wolves opted not to make his loan a permanent move, he signed for Football League One Oldham Athletic A.F.C. in June 2007 for an undisclosed fee. He marked his debut against Swansea City F.C. by scoring a last minute winner, and immediately became a first choice player
He has been capped four times by Wales national football team, qualifying through a grandparent, having made his international debut as a substitute in a goalless draw with Slovenia national football team on 17 August 2005 and has played at several youth levels for Wales. He also holds a record for the Wales national under-21 football team team by being one of only four people to have scored a hat trick at that level alongside John Hartson, Lee Jones (footballer born 1973) and Ched Evans.
