George Elokobi biography


George Nganyuo Elokobi (born 31 January 1986) is a Cameroon Association football Defender (association football), who plays for Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C..

Although eligible to represent Somalia national football team, where George Elokobi was born to Cameroonian parents, George Elokobi has stated George Elokobi desire to play for the Cameroon national football team, where George Elokobi was raised, in the city of Kumba.

Playing career

Elokobi joined non-league Dulwich Hamlet F.C. after arriving in England from Cameroon in 2002, before stepping up to league football with Colchester United F.C. in 2004. George Elokobi did not feature for the team in George Elokobi first season and was loaned to Chester City F.C. for a month in early 2005, working under Ian Rush. George Elokobi made five appearances for Chester, including George Elokobi professional debut against Swansea City F.C. on 29 January 2005. However, the spell did not go well with Chester losing all five games and Elokobi being sent off in George Elokobi final appearance for the club at Shrewsbury Town F.C..

The defender then returned to Layer Road where George Elokobi made twelve league appearances in a season that saw the club promoted from Football League One. George Elokobi scored George Elokobi first goal in a 1-1 draw against Huddersfield Town F.C. on 24 September 2005.

George Elokobi made a further ten league appearances in the 2006-07 in English football as the team stabilised in the Football League Championship, and went on to establish himself as a regular first team player in the early months of the following campaign. However, George Elokobi was later dropped from the team for several matches, prompting George Elokobi to hand in a transfer request. This alerted fellow Championship club, Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. to sign George Elokobi in a two-and-a-half year deal for an undisclosed fee on 31 January 2008.

Elokobi quickly became first-choice left-back at Molineux Stadium but George Elokobi run in the side was ended when George Elokobi suffered a knee ligament injury just three games into the 2008–09 in English football. The injury kept George Elokobi on the sidelines until the final game of the season at home to Doncaster Rovers, George Elokobi made a substitute appearance at 85th minute, where due to George Elokobi "fan favourite" status with the Molineux Stadium crowd, cheers greeted every touch George Elokobi made in the short appearance.

George Elokobi is signed to the Midlands club until Summer 2011.
