Brett Ormerod biography

Brett Ryan Ormerod (born 18 October 1976 in Blackburn, Lancashire) is an English professional football (soccer) player. He plays as a striker for Oldham Athletic F.C. on loan from Preston North End F.C..

Ormerod began his professional career at Accrington Stanley F.C.; however, he was quickly snapped up by Blackpool F.C. in 1997 for £50,000. During his four years with Blackpool, he suffered a badly broken leg that kept him out of the team in the 1999-00 in English football season. When he made his return the following season, he helped the team to promotion. After a couple of seasons back in Division Two, he was signed by FA Premiership side Southampton F.C. for £1.75m. He appeared in the 2003 FA Cup Final, in which Southampton lost 1-0 to a Robert Pires goal in the 37th minute.

Ormerod found first-team opportunities limited at Southampton, and he was loaned out to several clubs, including Leeds United A.F.C. and Wigan Athletic F.C.. After Southampton were relegated to the Football League Championship, he was able to play more often after the sale of several teammates who had been keeping him out of the team. On 28 January 2006, he was snapped up on a free transfer by Blackpool's arch-rivals Preston North End.

On 8 May 2006, he broke his leg during the playoff semi-final second leg against Leeds United. He made a rapid recovery, however, and came on as a substitute in the wins against Ipswich Town F.C. and Hull City A.F.C., and scored his first goal of the season in the 3-2 defeat against Burnley F.C. at Turf Moor .

On 7 March 2008, he signed on loan for Nottingham Forest until the end of the 2007-08 in English football, becoming Forest's second loan signing following the arrival of Will Hoskins from Watford F.C.. He scored two goals for Forest in thirteen appearances against Walsall F.C. and Northampton Town F.C., with his decent form helping Forest gain promotion to the Coca-Cola Championship.
