Early Playing Career
Wilson started his career at Notts County F.C., making his debut for the club in a 4-0 loss to Hartlepool United F.C. on 17 April 2004. In 2004/05 he became a regular in the Magpies back-line and was named Players' Player and most improved player in his first full season.
After 78 league appearances in three seasons, Wilson was judged as one of the lower league's hottest prospects. He was taken on loan in March 2006 by Preston North End F.C., then signed up at the end of the season for a reported £300,000. He only started 16 games in the The Football League 2006-07 and he was linked to a move to Nottingham Forest F.C..
Nottingham Forest
He subsequently signed for Nottingham Forest F.C. for the £300,000 committing himself to a four-year deal for his home town club. In the Nottingham Forest F.C. season 2007-08, Wilson was a virtual ever-present in The Reds defence, as he helped Forest gain automatic promotion finishing second in the league, as Forest were promoted from Football League One to the Football League Championship. He played 42 games of the season overall, missing a few games due to a red card in Forest's 2-1 victory over Huddersfield Town F.C. and an injury towards the end of the season. The powerhouse defender has become a favourite from Forest fans, as he helped The Reds keep 24 clean sheets in all that season, the record for the league.
