Neil Alexander Danns (born 23 November 1982, in Liverpool, England) is an England association football currently playing as a midfielder for Crystal Palace F.C. in the Football League Championship.
Playing career
Born in Liverpool, England, Danns began his football career as a schoolboy with Liverpool F.C., but signed as a trainee at Blackburn Rovers F.C.. It was after moving south to Colchester United F.C. that he started to make a name for himself, quickly establishing himself as a firm fans' favourite. Whilst at Layer Road, Danns contributed greatly to the club's promotion to the Football League Championship in 2006. His contribution had been recognised by many higher-profile clubs, and was subsequently linked with a number of teams in the summer.
On 19 June 2006, Danns completed a £500,000 move to Birmingham City F.C.. Despite admitting that he "had a great time" at Colchester, he emphasised that "when a club the size of Birmingham come in for you, it's hard to say no". Ironically, Danns made his competitive début for Birmingham against Colchester on August 5 2006.
Danns signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with Crystal Palace F.C. on 22 January 2008 for a fee of £600,000, rising to £850,000 should the club gain promotion to the Premier League.
