Club career
Ipswich Town
Ambrose started his career at Ipswich Town F.C. and made his debut against Arsenal F.C. in April 2002, replacing Martijn Reuser. Ipswich lost their Premiership status that year but Ambrose started brightly in the next season, scoring on his full debut in a 2–0 victory against Walsall F.C..
Throughout the campaign he impressed enough to be snapped up by Newcastle United F.C. for £1m by former Ipswich manager Bobby Robson.
Newcastle United
Ambrose was a success at Newcastle United with 25 appearances for the Magpies in his first season at Newcastle.
However, in 2004-05 in English football Ambrose only made 12 Premiership appearances for the Toon under new manager Graeme Souness.
Charlton Athletic
He joined Charlton Athletic F.C. in July 2005 for a fee estimated to be in the region of £1.5m, and scored three goals in each of his first two seasons at The Valley (stadium).
Personal life
Ambrose married his wife, Rachel, in a ceremony in Clearwater, Florida in May 2007. They have a daughter, Jessica, who was born in September 2007.
