Daniel Vaughn Webber (born December 28, 1981 in Manchester) is an England football (soccer) player who currently plays as a striker for Sheffield United F.C. in the Coca Cola Championship.
Playing career
Manchester United
Webber started his career as a schoolboy at Manchester United F.C., where he made his debut as a substitute in the League Cup during the 2000-01 in English football season, against Nottingham Forest F.C. The following season, he made his first start in another League Cup game for United but was loaned out to Watford F.C., where he scored two goals in five League appearances. A second loan spell in the season at Port Vale gave him another four League games under his belt. However he failed to hit a goal during his stint in the potteries.
Season 2002-03 in English football brought Webber his third and final appearance for Manchester United, as a substitute in the UEFA Champions League. At the end of the season he was offered a three year contract, but turned it down in order to seek first-team football.
Watford
In summer 2003 Webber joined Watford permanently. Manchester United team-mate and close friend Jimmy Davis (footballer) also moved to Watford (on a season-long loan) that summer, but Davis was killed in a car crash in the early hours of 9 August 2003 just hours before he was due to make his Watford debut in the Football League First Division opener against Coventry City F.C. (this match was subsequently postponed).
After 17 goals and 63 games for Watford F.C. in two seasons at Vicarage Road, he was transferred to Sheffield United following the sacking of Ray Lewington. Nigel Gibbs took over the reins at Vicarage Road; he loaned Webber to Sheffield United, with Danny Cullip moving in the opposite direction. At the end of the season the two clubs agreed a fee of Pound sterling500,000.
Sheffield United
Webber had made his first start for the Blades whilst on loan in a 4-0 away win at Leeds United A.F.C. where he scored after only two minutes.
During the 2005-06, Webber scored 10 goals to help the Blades to win automatic promotion from the Football League Championship to the top division. He played 22 games in the FA Premier League scoring 3 times including the winning goals against Newcastle United and Watford.
In April 2007 Webber announced his desire to play international football for Wales national football team.
