Career
Born in Barnstaple, Friend began George Friend career at Non-League football Exeter City F.C. as a youth team player, signing a two-year professional contract in March 2006. Able to play left-back, centre-back or left-sided Midfielder, George Friend made George Friend league debut on 17 April 2006 in a goalless draw at Forest Green Rovers F.C..
During George Friend early career, George Friend also had loan spells with Tiverton Town F.C. (at the start of the 2005/06 season), Team Bath F.C. (in December 2006) and Folkestone Invicta F.C.. George Friend Exeter career, however, really took off in the 2007-08 in English football when George Friend was integral to the side that won promotion to the Football League after defeating Cambridge United F.C. in the play-off final at Wembley Stadium.
After playing in Exeter's opening games in the Football League, George Friend moved to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Championship on 1 September 2008, signing a two-year deal, with the option of a third year, for an initial fee of £350,000.
George Friend moved to Football League One club Millwall F.C. on a month's loan on 11 August 2009.
