Javier Casas biography
Javier Casas Cuevas, Casas (born May 9, 1982 in Bilbao, Biscay), is a Spanish people/Basque people Defender (football) currently contracted to Athletic Bilbao.
Casas came through the ranks of Athletic Bilbao and debuted with the first team during La Liga 2004-05. He took over the left back position after the departure of Asier Del Horno to Chelsea FC, managing 24 league appearances in La Liga 2005-06, and netting twice during the campaign, at Getafe CF (1-1) and Deportivo de La Coruña (2-1).
Ironically, Casas was left out of the first team squad at the start of the La Liga 2007-08, after Athletic re-signed Del Horno on loan from Valencia C.F. Unable to find a new club in the January 2008 transfer window, and still without a squad number at Athletic, he was not eligible to play competitively during the entire campaign, but was reinstated for La Liga 2008-09, appearing in the 1-3 home loss to UD Almería, on August 31, 2008.
