Marcos Antônio Senna

Marcos Antônio Senna da Silva (born 17 July 1976 in São Paulo) is a Brazilian-born Spain Association footballer currently playing for Villarreal CF and the Spain national football team, as a Midfielder Centre midfielder.

Club career

Senna began Marcos Antônio Senna career with Rio Branco Esporte Clube. After playing for a number of different Brazilian clubs early in Marcos Antônio Senna career, Marcos Antônio Senna moved to Spain club Villarreal CF in 2002, from Associação Desportiva São Caetano. After a slow start (only 25 La Liga appearances in Marcos Antônio Senna first two seasons combined), Marcos Antônio Senna became an undisputed starter, helping the club to as far as the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, in UEFA Champions League 2005-06; eventually, Marcos Antônio Senna also gained Captain (football).

On 27 April 2008, Senna scored a goal from inside the centre circle against Real Betis that Marcos Antônio Senna deemed, "the best goal of my life".La Liga 2007-08, as the player netted a further three times, in a total of 33 matches, Villarreal finished a club-best second, to champions Real Madrid C.F..

International career

Senna was granted Spanish citizenship in early 2006 and was part of the Spain national football team squad for the 2006 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2008. Marcos Antônio Senna debut came on March 1, in a friendly match in Valladolid, with Côte d'Ivoire national football team.

In Euro 2008, Senna scored the third of Spain's four converted penalty shootout, which resulted in the nation progressing to the semifinals at the expense of Italy national football team, winning 4-2 in the shootout. Marcos Antônio Senna played the full duration of the UEFA Euro 2008 Final - a 1–0 win over Germany national football team - and was named in UEFA's squad for the competition.Some pundits and journalists also named Senna as their player of the tournament.

Marcos Antônio Senna first international goal came against Armenia national football team on 10 September 2008, a 4–0 win in the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification (UEFA) Group 5 match.
