Gonzalo Rodríguez

Gonzalo Javier Rodríguez, sometimes simply Gonzalo (born April 10, 1984 in Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires Province), is an Argentina Association footballer currently playing in La Liga for Villarreal CF, as a central defender.

Club career

Gonzalo started Gonzalo Rodríguez professional career at Primera División Argentina Club Atlético San Lorenzo de Almagro in 2002. At age 20, Gonzalo Rodríguez had already represented Argentina national football team, previously having appeared at the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship with the Argentina national under-20 football team.

In the 2004 summer, Rodríguez joined Spain's Villarreal CF, being an undisputed starter in Gonzalo Rodríguez first two seasons, and renewing Gonzalo Rodríguez link for a further five years.However, after the surprise UEFA Intertoto Cup 2006 elimination at the hands of NK Maribor, in which Gonzalo Rodríguez was Red card (sports),and a mere month into La Liga 2006-07, Gonzalo Rodríguez suffered a serious injury, tearing the cruciate ligament in Gonzalo Rodríguez right knee. After returning to activity in April 2007, Gonzalo Rodríguez suffered the same injury two months later.

In La Liga 2008-09, Rodríguez returned to good form, making a good partnership with Uruguayan Diego Godín.
