Grant Gordon Smith (born May 5 1980 in Irvine, North Ayrshire) is a Scottish people Football (soccer) who plays midfield for English Football League One club Carlisle United F.C.. He is the son of former Rangers F.C. and Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. striker and current Scottish Football Association chief executive Gordon Smith (footballer born 1954).
Career
Smith signed a short-term contract with Dundee United F.C. in September 2006, agreeing to stay until the next transfer window in January 2007. Smith also played for England sides Bristol City F.C. and Walsall F.C. (on loan).
Smith went on trial at Hibernian F.C. in February 2007. He then signed one-year contract with Finnish club Helsingin Jalkapalloklubi in April 2007. During his time in Finland, he also had a brief loan spell with Klubi-04.
Smith returned to Britain in January 2008 and joined Carlisle United F.C. on a short-term contract until the end of the season, after training with the club's squad.
