Stephen James "Steve" Mildenhall (born 13 May 1979 in Swindon, Wiltshire) is an English professional Association football Goalkeeper (association football), currently playing for Millwall F.C. in the Football League Championship.

Stephen James "Steve" Mildenhall (born 13 May 1979 in Swindon, Wiltshire) is an English professional Association football Goalkeeper (association football), currently playing for Millwall F.C. in the Football League Championship.


Mildenhall's professional career started at Swindon Town F.C where Steve Mildenhall made 38 appearances, including one as a centre forward away at Tranmere Rovers. While at Swindon Steve Mildenhall was named young player and player of the year before securing a £150,000 transfer to Notts County F.C.. Mildenhall played 91 games for the Magpies, scoring one Goal (sport) (a Direct free kick against Mansfield Town F.C. in a Football League Cup tie) which later appeared as a 'What happened next' slot on an episode of A Question of Sport. A falling out with then manager Gary Mills (footballer born 1961) prompted a move to Oldham Athletic A.F.C. in December 2005. Steve Mildenhall made six appearances for the club before breaking Steve Mildenhall finger, and Steve Mildenhall subsequently lost Steve Mildenhall place in the team.

In the summer of 2005, Mildenhall moved to Grimsby Town F.C., and was ever present in Steve Mildenhall only season at Blundell Park. Failure to achieve promotion to League One in the 2005-06 in English football League Two Play-Off Final at the Millennium Stadium saw Grimsby manager Russell Slade leave the club, and Mildenhall also departed, joining Steve Mildenhall former manager at Yeovil Town F.C. During Steve Mildenhall time at The Glovers Mildenhall established himself as the club's first choice keeper and became popular amongst their fans being named player of the year as the side reached the 2006-07 in English football League One Play-Off Final at Wembley which they lost to Blackpool F.C However, Steve Mildenhall second season at Yeovil was disturbed through injury. In mid-September Steve Mildenhall injured a muscle around Steve Mildenhall hip against Leyton Orient F.C., which saw Steve Mildenhall out of action for more than a month. On Steve Mildenhall return to the first team in late October Steve Mildenhall was unable to help Yeovil as they succumbed to a 2-1 home defeat to Swansea City F.C. and Mildenhall was on the sidelines again after injuring Steve Mildenhall knee ligaments after a clash with Tommy Mooney in the 2-0 away defeat to Walsall F.C. in early February.

Mildenhall was voted BBC south-west footballer of the year for 2007.

It was announced on 6 June 2008 that Steve Mildenhall signed a 3 year contract at Southend United F.C..

Mildenhall put in a man of the match performance in Southend United F.C.'s third round FA cup game against Chelsea F.C. at Stamford Bridge (stadium) with a string of fine saves including a stunning save in the fourth minute of added time to keep out Franco Di Santo's header.
Mildenhall made 89 appearances for Southend United in all competitions.

On 13 July 2010, Mildenhall had Steve Mildenhall contract cancelled by mutual consent and signed a 12-month contract with Championship side Millwall F.C. the same day. Steve Mildenhall signed a new 2 year contract in the summer of 2011 which keeps Steve Mildenhall at the club until the end of the 2013 season.

To date Mildenhall has made over 400 appearances in all competitions.

Mildenhall made Steve Mildenhall league debut for Millwall on 20 August 2011, in an away defeat to Southampton F.C. by one goal to nil.
Steve Mildenhall has found it hard to hold down a regular place in the team but has made 10 League and 4 Cup appearances in the 2011/12 season to date.

Personal life

Mildenhall is currently studying for a BA Honours degree in Professional Sports Writing & Broadcasting at Staffordshire University through the Professional Footballers' Association.
