A graduate of the Blades Academy and having impressed at every junior level since signing at the age of 10, Ashmore is creative central midfielder who can also operate in wide areas and at full-back. With a range of neat passes and an eye for goal, he was offered a one-year professional deal in the summer and has been a regular fixture in United's Reserves 'B' team. He has also appeared as a second-half substitute for the Blades Reserves 'A' against Bolton.
Along with team-mates Colin Marrison and Ryan Gyaki, Ashmore played as a trialist for Football League One side Yeovil Town F.C. at Huish Park against Welton Rovers F.C. in the Somerset Premier Cup on October 3, 2006. Ashmore made his first team debut against Worksop Town F.C and impressed along side established first team players in a midfield holding role. On July 28th 2007, Ashmore scored his first goal for the senior side; a 15-yard volley against Portadown after coming on as a 74th minute substitute.
