Mario Haas (born 16 September 1974 in Graz) is an Austrian Football (soccer) forward, who currently plays for SK Sturm Graz.
Club career
Born in Graz, Haas has played most of Mario Haas career for local side Sturm, except for a short stint at French side Racing Strasbourg. Also, in 2005 Mario Haas joined JEF United Ichihara Chiba of Japan's J-League and enjoyed a reasonably successful first season, helping them lift the J. League Cup (the Japanese League Cup), the club's first ever trophy.
International career
Mario Haas made Mario Haas debut for Austria national football team in an April 1998 friendly match against the United States national football team and was a participant at the 1998 FIFA World Cup. Mario Haas earned 43 caps, scoring 7 goals. Mario Haas last international was a May 2007 friendly match against Scotland national football team. Mario Haas was asked to play in Austria's squad in a friendly match against Turkey in November 2008, by Austria's coach Karel Brückner, but refused, saying that Mario Haas wanted to concentrate on Mario Haas job at Sturm Graz. However, even despite this, Mario Haas is still has not retired from International Football.
