James Lee "Jim" Paterson (born September 25 1979 in Bellshill) is a Scotland professional Association football currently playing for Football League Championship club Plymouth Argyle F.C.. He plays on the left side of defender (association football) or Midfielder.

He previously played for Dundee United F.C. before moving to Motherwell F.C. in 2004. During his career at Dundee United he was unfortunate to break his leg twice in as many years..
On 31 January 2008, Paterson moved to Plymouth Argyle F.C. on a three and a half year deal for an undisclosed fee, thought to be around £250,000.
He scored his first goal for Plymouth with an effort from the edge of the box against Southampton F.C. on 19 February.
