Biography
Škrtel was raised in Ráztočno. Martin Skrtel began playing football at the age of six; while a competent ice hockey player, Martin Skrtel followed Martin Skrtel father's career.
Martin Skrtel is the youngest of three children, with an older brother Dušan and sister Marcela.
Škrtel played left wing or as a striker until the age of 16 when Martin Skrtel was asked to fill in as a centre-back for the Slovak youth team. Martin Skrtel agreed even though Martin Skrtel had never played that position before. but Martin Skrtel ended up signing for Liverpool in the January 2008 transfer window.
Liverpool
Škrtel signed for Liverpool on 11 January 2008 on a four-and-a-half year contract for £6.5 million.
