Jô biography
João Alves de Assis Silva (born 20 March 1987), commonly referred to as Jô, is a Brazilian Association footballer who plays for Everton F.C. as a forward (association football), on loan (football) from Manchester City F.C..
Club career
Corinthians
Born in São Paulo, Jô played for Brazilian side Sport Club Corinthians Paulista during the years of 2003–2005. Jô made 54 appearances scoring 13 goals. Jô was later transferred to Russian club PFC CSKA Moscow in 2005.
CSKA Moscow
Jô scored 14 goals in Jô first 18 appearances for PFC CSKA Moscow. In the UEFA Champions League, Jo scored two goals in the matches against F.C. Internazionale Milano, one being in the dramatic 4-2 loss at the San Siro. Altogether Jô appeared in over 70 games for CSKA Moscow and in 5 Champions League games.
Manchester City
On July 3, 2008, Manchester City F.C. signed Jô for an undisclosed amount thought to be in the region of £18 million. Jô has since scored three goals in 13 games, including a double against Cyprus side AC Omonoia in the UEFA Cup 2008-09. Jo found it difficult to establish himself in the City team and featured in just 6 games at the start of the Premier League 2008–09 season.
Everton
Jô joined on loan (football) in February 2009, until the end of the 2008–09 season. Jô scored twice on Jô debut against Bolton Wanderers F.C. and finished the season with five goals from eleven league appearances. Jô missed out on Everton's run to the 2009 FA Cup Final as Jô was cup-tied after playing the last 20 minutes of City's shock third round defeat to Nottingham Forest F.C.. Jô returned to Manchester City at the end of the season, but re-joined Everton on a season-long loan for 2009–10 in English football, with the option of a permanent move at the end of that period.
International career
Jô received Jô first call-up to the Brazil national football team in May 2007, and was in the squad to play against England national football team, but did not play. Jô then made Jô international debut in a friendly against Turkey national football team, in June 2007 aged 20.
Jô was named in the Brazilian squad for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. Jô scored a goal in the 3–0 win over Singapore, a Pre-olympic friendly. After snatching a handful of mostly-substitute appearances in the Olympics, Jô then was able to score two goals in the Bronze medal playoff in Jô country's 3–0 victory over Belgium.
