Jan Gunnar Solli biography
Jan Gunnar Solli (born April 19, 1981 in Arendal) is a Norway football (soccer) player. He is currently playing at the Norwegian club SK Brann. He is a hard-working and committed player, he usually plays as a right winger_(sport), but can also play centre midfield. He is considered to be one of the best purchases of 2007 in the Norwegian Tippeligaen.
Having represented Norway at Under-18 and U21 level, Solli made his senior debut in a friendly international against Scotland national football team on 20 August 2003 and scored his first international goal in a 3-2 win against Russia national football team on the April 28 the same year. As of April 2005 Solli has 17 cap (football).
Solli made his senior debut for Odd Grenland B.K. in the 2000 Norwegian Premier League season and made five league appearances, all as a substitute, for the club in his first season. In total, he played 54 league games for the club over three-and-a-half seasons – but failed to score – and helped Odd reach the 2002 Norwegian football cup final, where they were beaten 1-0 by Vålerenga I.F. Fotball.
Solli agreed a switch to perennial Norwegian champions Rosenborg BK in summer 2003 and made four starts and a further ten substitute appearances in the second half of that season as the Trondheim club wrapped up a 12th consecutive league title. He was also a regular in the ensuing European campaigns and scored an important first-leg goal against Maccabi Haifa F.C in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round in August 2004.
Solli scored his first-ever league goal against Viking F.K on the 23rd of August 2003 – his fifth full season as a professional footballer.
On March 16 2007, Solli signed a three year deal with SK Brann. The transfer-fee was Norwegian krone 6.000.000. Solli's first season in the red shirt of SK Brann was a huge success. From his right wing position he became an integral part of Brann's title winning squad, earning himself a recall to Norway's national squad. Forming a lethal partnership with his former Rosenborg BK colleague Thorstein Helstad, Solli is considered one of the success stories of the 2007 Tippeliga season.
