On July 23 2007, it was announced that Stefanidis had signed for Malmö FF, a contract starting on January 1, 2008. However, fans of Helsingborgs IF were greatly upset and harassments and personal persecutions led to Stefanidis' changing clubs already on August 2nd, 2007. The disappointment came from the fact that Stefanidis refused to sign a new contract with Helsingborgs IF and thereafter switched to the main rivals.
