Martin Retov biography
Martin Retov (born May 5, 1980) is a Denmark professional Football (soccer) player, who currently plays as a central midfielder for Hansa Rostock in the 2. Bundesliga. He has played two games for the Denmark national football team. He has played more than 200 games for Brøndby IF
He started his career in the youth teams of Danish clubs Rishøj IF and Køge Boldklub, before he made his debut for Køge in the second-tier Danish 1st Division league in 1999. He was called up for the Denmark national under-21 football team in 2001, which he represented in three matches, coming on as a substitute in all three games. In 2002, Køge earned promotion and relegation to the top-flight Danish Superliga 2002-03, but following only one Superliga match for the club he was injured in late July. While still recovering, he was bought by the defending Danish football champions Brøndby IF.
He was one of the first signings of new Brøndby IF coach Michael Laudrup, who played Retov in a centre midfield duo with Morten Wieghorst. Retov quickly became a mainstay in the Brøndby team, and following a successful Danish Superliga 2003-04, he debuted for the Danish national team, when he came on as a late substitute, replacing Morten Wieghorst against Scotland in a friendly match 1-0 win on 28 April, 2004. Subsequently, he was voted Brøndby's 2004 Player of the Year. In the Danish Superliga 2004-05, Retov only missed a single Superliga match, as Brøndby won its 10th championship, and he took part in the Danish Cup 2004-05 victory, to complete Brøndby's the Double triumph.
On July 8 2008 he joined 2. Bundesliga side Hansa Rostock
