Nico Vaesen (born September 28, 1969, in Hasselt, Belgium) is a Belgian ex-footballer who played as a Goalkeeper (football). He retired from football shortly after joining K. Lierse S.K..
He spent his first professional season at Belgian sides Cercle Brugge and V.C. Eendracht Aalst 2002, and on May 21, 1998 moved to Huddersfield Town F.C], where he played 135 league games. During his first season for the club, he won the clubs' Supporters Player of the Year. After three years at the side, on June 18, 2001 he signed for Birmingham City.
He was number one until a cruciate knee injury in the play-off final put him behind Ian Bennett (footballer) in the club's priorities, he kept a place in the squad, but, on Christmas Eve of that year he was loaned to Gillingham F.C] for one and a half months, during which time he participated in five games.
Spells at Crystal Palace F.C] (which included another play-off final victory) in the first half of 2004 followed.
He was number two to Maik Taylor until his release at the end of the 2005-06 season.
He then moved to Belgian side Lierse S.K., but has since retired.
